The most natural resource we humans have is absolutely great for you.  Drinking water has several benefits that improve or maintain your health.  Yes, it’s a necessity but getting plenty of water as opposed to being nearly dehydrated can make a big difference in your quality of life.  Water is great for your skin and flushes out your system keeping it fine-tuned and working in proper order.  This helps to prevent urinary tract Infections and kidney stones.  Drinking water in an ample will help to promote weight loss as it suppresses your appetite while filling your stomach and also boosting your metabolism.  Water helps you to think clearly too.  Your brain is made up of predominately water so keeping it lubricate with H2o makes it work better and more efficiently.  Boosting your water intake will help you with digestion while preventing constipation too.  Do you want to boost your immune system?  Then drink water.  Believe it or not being fully hydrated helps fight against the flu, heart attacks, and even cancer.  Water is better than aspirin for natural headache prevention.  Dehydration not only makes you weak but also causes headaches and some of the can be quite severe at times.

A good timetable to follow for getting the right amount of water to increase your health benefits is as follows.


Upon Waking

Drinking water should be the first thing you do when waking up. Having one glass of water will jump start your internal organs and remove toxins left in your body through the night.

Before Meals

Drink one glass of water 30 minutes before every meal.  This helps your body digest its food effectively.

After Eating

Wait for one hour after eating to drink another glass of water.  This will allow for your body’s own digestive juices to serve their purpose.

Before Taking a Bath

Before you take a bath it is beneficial to drink one glass of water, this helps lower your blood pressure.

During Exercise

Carry a water bottle with you during workouts and drinking water in large amounts is not recommended, so sip slowly throughout your workout.

Before Bed

One hour before bed it’s best to drink a glass of water to help protect against dehydration throughout the night.

When should you be Drinking Water?

7:00 – 1st Glass

Drink your first glass of water when you wake up to hydrate your body after a long night’s rest. Have your breakfast at a least half an hour after the first glass.

9:00 – 2nd Glass

Approximately 1 hour after your breakfast; have a glass of water and start your day.

11:30 – 3rd Glass

Have a glass of water 30 minutes before lunch.

13:30 – 4th Glass

Drink a glass of water an hour after lunch to allow the nutrients from the food to be better absorbed by your body.

15:00 – 5th Glass

Drink unsweetened green tea.  Remember, unsweetened, no honey or syrup.  Add fresh mint leaves if needed.

17:00 – 6th Glass

This glass of water will prevent overeating during dinner.

20:00 – 7th Glass

Have a glass of water an hour after dinner and before you shower.

22:00 – 8th Glass

Drink your last glass of water an hour before bedtime to aid in the cell renewal process during your sleep.

Are you taking NSAIDs or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents?

If you are taking NSAIDs such as Aspirin, ibuprofen, and Naproxen you need to make sure you drink a lot of water to prevent any irritation from the medication.

How about bisphosphonates?

Bisphosphonates are used to treat or prevent osteoporosis.  These need to also be taken with plenty of water on an empty stomach, and remember not to lie down for one hour after swallowing bisphosphonates.  Typically the bigger the pill the more water you should use to ingest it.

When your mouth is extra dry bacteria thrives inside.  So drinking ample amounts of water will fight against bad breath caused by bacteria.  Also, after eating you can rinse your mouth out with water if you don’t have mouthwash handy to get rid of food build up which can give off unsavory odors.

Water, water, and more water.  Alcohol is a diuretic and makes you urinate more than usual.  So it’s very important to drink plenty of water when imbibing in your favorite spirits.  Drink at least 16-20 ounces of water before going to bed after a night of drinking.
